Came on a Tuesday at 1pm for lunch. Mom and Pop food truck. Wasn't too busy as there were only two other families present. Ordered the Kalbi Ribs, Lemon Caper Mahi, and Kalua Quesadilla. Food took a bit to come out, but the wait wasn't too bad. Finding seating within the area was not easy as there was only one picnic table and a few chairs for the other folding tables. We were not disappointed when the food came out. Food was absolutely delicious! Wouldn't hesitate to come again!
This was a last minute lunch choice and it was AMAZING! This is a must stop if you're in Waimea. This is right when you get out of the Waimea canyon/valley drive. We got two orders: Fried saimin with kalbi was super tasty and big portions. A whole container of saimin and like two kalbi short ribs on top. Enough to share for sure. We got kalua quesadilla too- AMAZING 13/10 recommend!!!!!! Not pictured is the pork belly fried saimin which was really good and ordered by my brother. Prices are decent considering portion sizes and the food came out fast! Island tacos across the street tried charging $13 for a single fish taco... where as the saimin kalbi was like $20 and the kalua quesadilla was $12. Two down sides is theres one bench outside to eat at and there are a lot of flies. Not really on the business to figure out but if it's busy you gotta figure out seating somewhere else. Also they ran out of Korean chicken which was a bummer- but must be good! No docked star for this just a heads up to future customers.
Got the Mahi with lemon caper sauce and it was very good! The fish tasted fresh and was cooked very well. I really enjoyed it!

Enjoyed my meal yesterday and will be back for more ono specials. don't forget about this place hit this place on your way up the canyon ,its wright at the turn to go up kokee .
Amazing authentic Asian Hawaiian food! It took some looking to find it. They are directly across the street from the Waimea Baptist Church. Their motto is come hungry, leave sleepy, and they were right! My husband and I SPLIT this dish, and we could barely eat the rest of the day! This was kalbi, crispy roast pork, kimchi, potato salad and noodles. We were on the island for 8 days, and this was one of our top 3 dining experiences. We took an easy walk down the street to Jojo's Shave Ice which was the best shave ice!!!
Hoku only makes good food. I have tried about everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. He is inexpensive and has the best hours. Located right in the heart of Waimea
Stopped by randomly, attracted by Hoku's blue truck and him leaning out the window, smiling. The quesadilla we got was honestly one of the best I've ever had -- and I'm from Southern California with plenty of Mexican about. It was perfectly crispy on the outside, incredible cheesiness inside, and the kalua pig inside was delicious. Hoku was so so nice and wonderful, and answered my questions about the skeleton of sugar mill refinery behind the truck, which added to the setting of the entire experience. We're heading back to check out the rest of the menu, this time with intent!
You need to stop here if you're in Waimea! This little food truck whips up delicous authentic Hawaiian dishes super fast and super well! You wouldn't think it's much but he look of the truck, and it's easy to miss. But if you're lucky enough to catch it, you must go! The cook running the truck (I'm assume he was the owner) is an amazingly nice guy who knew exactly what he was talking about. He was super informative and took the time to quick give me a run down of what each dish was presented on the daily menu. I chose the gandule (Puerto Rican rice with pigeon peas) with grilled chicken bowl. Didn't have to wait very long either. The bowl was the perfect temperature. Chicken was grilled was perfection! It tasted so good combined with the rice which was very well seasoned! It tasted exactly like the gandules con arroz you get at a hawker center in Puerto Rico. Not only delicous, but authentic as well! Side note: I was told that homemade gandule is actually very rare to come by in Hawaii unless you're lucky enough to catch selling it on the side of the road. I guess it was my lucky day! I would happily return to Hoku's next time I'm in Maui!

We were at the Hanapepe art walk and there were a ton of options, but all the locals were going here so I followed. I got the teriyaki salmon and it was $15. First of all, you can't buy a piece of salmon that big in a grocery store in Kauai, let alone have it be cooked for you. It was cooked perfectly, laid over a bed of rice, and had enough sauce for all the rice. It comes with two scoops of rice and Mac salad, enough for two but I was really hungry after a day of chasing our kiddos all over the beach. Would love to try everything else if they were closer, this place is amazing!
